Touching Memories
Jerusalem, Israel
Touching Memories is a moving and exceptional project we created for Yad Vashem – an innovative theater that bridges personal and collective memory through modern storytelling tools. In an era where the number of Holocaust survivors continues to dwindle, we are proud to take part in a unique initiative that breathes new life into remembrance.
During our research, we were granted access to Yad Vashem’s collection of original artifacts, along with the powerful stories of the survivors who donated them. Around these items, we crafted an immersive theatrical experience that blends live performance, media, and physical objects. The journey begins in the entrance hall, where visitors are introduced to the stories behind the artifacts — setting the emotional and narrative tone for the performances that follow inside the theater space.
The hall was designed by Breeze Creative’s in-house team and features a dynamic, living set brought to life through refined animation, atmospheric lighting design, original music, and top-tier stage direction — all coming together to form a deep, emotional, and educational experience that lingers long after the visit.
At the heart of the production are four original plays, each centered on a single character and their unique story:
-
The Painter of Truth and Lies – Inspired by the life of Leopold (Leo) Haas, whose drawings served as testimony during the Eichmann trial.
-
And Gave Force: The Power of the Jewish Spirit – Inspired by the story of Naftali Stern and the prayers he wrote in the Wolfsberg camp.
-
Bar and the Toy Underground – A family-friendly play inspired by the story of Fred Lessing, a young boy hiding alone with only his toy bear, Bar, by his side.
-
The Curator – Inspired by the life of Esmeralda-Samira Bouabbah, a survivor of the Holocaust of North African Jewry, and the legacy of memory passed down through generations.
